Temple Bar Hotels

Hotels in Temple Bar in Dublin are often full to capacity year-round – and with good reason: As one of the oldest and best-loved parts of Dublin City, Temple Bar (named after Sir William Temple who began developing the area in the 17th century) is also one of the main cultural centres of the City, and is home to many major Irish arts and cultural organisations such as the Irish Film Institute, the Irish Photography Centre, the Temple Bar Music Centre, the Gaiety School of Acting, and many others (over 50, to be exact).

While its many narrow cobbled streets give it a certain medieval character, the buzzing night life in Temple Bar is firmly based in the 21st century: the whole area is full of Irish pubs (genuine ones; not 'made for tourist' pubs!), clubs, bars, restaurants, and all kinds of quirky shops, as well as a whole range of regular year-round events, and on-street entertainment in the form of buskers and comedians, in addition to spectacular open-air performances at Meeting House Square.

The whole area really comes alive at night, and has something to suit everyone, whether you want to have a gourmet meal, dance along to (often impromptu) live sessions of traditional Irish music, watch a live play, visit the local Food Market, laugh yourself silly at a comedy show, or dance into the small hours of the morning at one of the many fine nightclubs. Or, if you just want a nice quite drink to relax after the day, there are many pubs and bars to suit any mood. You could probably sepnd days wandering through Temple Bar, and still not see and do everything there is to see and do there!

Temple Bar is also located right in the heart of Dublin City, on the south-side of the River Liffey, making it a superbly-central location to base yourself for sight-seeing, shopping, socialising, and exploring the rest of Dublin too. Both Grafton Street and Henry Street, two of Dublin's primary shopping streets, are only a few minutes walk away. There are also some wonderful attractions equally close by, including Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin Castle, the Ha'Penny Bridge, Trinity College, and O'Connell Street, the scene of some of most fierce and bloody battles of the 1916 Rising and the Irish War of Independence. (Be sure the check out the GPO, the centre-point of the fighting, where bullets left pockmarks that still survive nearly 100 years later!)
